Biophilia, Biomimicry and William Morris
Creative Direction, Videography, Editing
Biophilia and biomimicry heavily influenced William Morris and the Kelmscott Press, shaping their dedication to nature-inspired design and craftsmanship. Morris's belief in biophilia, the innate human connection to nature, fueled his passion for creating intricately detailed, natural motifs in his designs. This love for nature can be seen in the flora and fauna motifs that adorned Kelmscott Press publications. Additionally, biomimicry, the practice of emulating nature's patterns and systems, inspired Morris to create designs that reflected the organic beauty found in the natural world. The meticulous attention to detail and the use of natural forms in Kelmscott Press's work showcase the profound impact of biophilia and biomimicry on William Morris's artistic vision.
To promote Kelmscott Press Day, I collaborated with the library’s communication team, librarians, and conservators to make a series of videos about the Kelmscott Press. The communications team and I planned and executed a b-roll shoot, showcasing elements of the the collection, and then we filmed a series of interviews with subject matter experts about the Kelmscott Press.
